OUR STORY
King River are fifth-generation cattle farmers, based in northern Australia. The Kemp and Rich families joined their knowledge, experience and deep love for the land to create King River and deliver high-quality, trusted Australian Wagyu to the world. With hundreds of hectares of superb grazing land and operations across Queensland, Australia, we export only the finest-quality Wagyu beef to global markets.
Our Wagyu comes from a full paddock-to-plate operation. From decades of science-backed breeding to our pristine farming land that raises our Wagyu and grows their feed, and our highly experienced domestic and international exporting team, you can be sure King River is committed to a high-quality, consistent product at every step.

The King River team has exceptional experience across the entire supply chain. On the land, we have decades of experience and expert knowledge in Wagyu breeding, care, feeding and processing.
We also understand the technicalities of exporting and have a specialist Logistics Coordinator with over 20 years of experience ensuring products arrive on time and comply with import requirements. We work in the languages you speak, and our sales team understands the unique needs of all of our import partners.

Farming families
Farm life is unlike any other. Long days, hard work, beautiful scenery, and good mates are part of the fabric that makes life on the farm truly special. King River is grateful to work alongside several farms to raise our Wagyu across Queensland. Without these properties and families it wouldn’t be possible to do what we do.
If you are interested in becoming a King River producer, we are expanding our operations to meet the rising global demand for Wagyu. We want to work with Australian producers that have established herds with quality Wagyu genetics and an ongoing breeding program. James & Robyn Rich
Founding family
James (call him Jim) is enjoying his best life. As a founding member and Director of King River, he’s delighted to be building a life and legacy with and for his family in the agricultural sector. Jim makes sure the business is future-focused for growth and stability. He’s particularly careful to set up partnerships where everyone benefits. Supported by his wife Robyn, if their lives were a movie, it would be entitled ‘Going Beyond’.
David & Lynda Kemp
Founding family
David Kemp is a dedicated second-generation farmer carrying on the enduring legacy of Lotus Park and the Kemp Holding. Being a Queensland farmer requires more than just hard work - it demands resilience, vision, focus, and a deep connection to the land. Supported by his wife, Lynda, they humbly embody the essential qualities of leadership, navigating the challenges of farming with determination and a shared vision.

Anna Wilkes
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
As our CFO, Anna brings to King River her gift for seeing the big picture, understanding the numbers and designing a pathway forward to reach ambitious goals. She excels at synthesising information and devising strategies for the management team. With a family of her own, Anna resonates with the emphasis King River places on family and says that her greatest lesson in work has been the power of aligning her career with her personal values.

KEY ACCOUNT MANAGER
John understands fine food, and he knows what it takes to procure, prepare and serve dishes that delight. It’s only one of the things that makes him a great person to have on the King River team. John loves meeting new people and introducing new customers to the King River difference. Mutually beneficial relationships are one of our strongest brand values, so you’ll find John to be just like one of your own team, helping you grow your business alongside ours. As the Key Accounts Manager, John truly enjoys the process of understanding our customers, and then finding ways to meet and exceed your expectations. It’s not all work for John, though. He’s keen on sports (mostly from the spectator’s side of the field), and enjoys a quiet fishing holiday from time to time.
Alexander Miles
SALES ASSOCIATE
Alexander brings a unique perspective to the King River family. Alexander fell in love with Australia's cattle industry and the outback life as a station hand at Strathpark during his working holiday from Sweden, and he’s never looked back. His experience working directly on station gives him authentic insight that clients appreciate. "The more complex the issue, the more rewarding it is to solve," is Alexander's approach to client relationships, where his problem-solving mindset and years of marketing experience really shine. In his downtime, you'll find Alexander exploring Brisbane's restaurant scene or escaping to Queensland's vast outback – always with the same enthusiasm he brings to building lasting professional relationships.
Carla Welsh
BRAND AMBASSADOR
Carla is driven by one mission - getting King River's premium Wagyu into the hands of the best chefs in the world. As our Brand Ambassador, she fosters direct, face-to-face connections with restaurants across Brisbane and beyond, connecting exceptional Australian beef with exceptional culinary talent. In a world that’s becoming increasingly digital and systems-driven, Carla champions the personal touch because, as she puts it, "people buy from people they like". When things go wrong (and sometimes they do!), her clients know they can rely on a genuine human who truly cares. What gets Carla out of bed each morning? Building the trusted partnerships that make her job worthwhile. Contrary to popular belief, that doesn’t involve eating Wagyu every day!

Michelle Rafton
LOGISTICS COORDINATOR
Michelle smoothly manages the intricate details that keep King River's exports running smoothly - coordinating orders, organising transport, monitoring timing and conditions, and keeping customers informed every step of the way. Don't be fooled into thinking logistics happens entirely behind the scenes. As Logistics Coordinator, Michelle (or Shell) knows her role demands constant communication, precise timing, and strict temperature control to ensure customers receive their premium Wagyu safely and on schedule. Outside the office, you'll find Michelle on horseback, competing in Stockhorse classes, challenges and camp drafting – coincidently using those skills that also translate well to coordinating complex logistics where timing, control and smooth execution are everything.
Jan Harris
OFFICE MANAGER
Working hard in the background of any successful enterprise like King River, you’ll find a powerhouse team player just like our Office Manager, Jan Harris. Jan’s the glue that keeps operations humming at peak efficiency. She not only smoothly manages the space we call ‘the office’ but also makes space for everyone working there to give of their best in their own roles. No two days are the same, but Jan rolls with a positive and resourceful outlook. In her own words, “always take a pragmatic approach”. Jan’s enjoying learning all things beef production and is quickly becoming a KR brand ambassador, always ready to explain the science and processes behind that delicious steak.
