Our Year In Review 2023

As we come to the end of 2023, we reflect on a year of growth and accomplishments. Over one big year, our herds have seen significant expansion, breeding programs continue to evolve, partnerships and exposure have grown nationally and internationally, and we have been honoured to mark the year with a number of awards. Join us in celebrating a year made possible by our amazing farming families, hard-working team and incredible network of distributors, partners and clients.

Growing the King River brand

In 2023 King River streamlined our product lines to our Crossbred and Purebred programs. We are also launching a new brand, Jewel, which will sit under the King River umbrella and be used to market specific King River products. 

Growing our valued network of partnerships

As we close 2023, King River is honoured by our national and international partnerships. 


King River partners with 14 restaurants throughout Australia. We have had the privilege of visiting several of our restaurant partners in 2023 to offer training and celebrate achievements and events. A particular highlight of this year was hosting ‘The Mix’ with award-winning chef Jake Nicolson. Held in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, this late July event was a huge success and a lot of fun for our team. It featured two chefs, Jake Nicolson and Dan Cooper, in the award-winning Prince Dining Room, with a King River Wagyu Rib Fillet MS9 as the main dish. Also crowning this year was a fantastic achievement from one of our restaurant partners, Moo Moo, who was named ‘Queensland’s Best Steak Restaurant, Formal 2023’.

National and International distributors and clients

We have had a number of new distributors and clients join the King River network in 2023 alongside our ongoing clients. We were honoured to be present to support one of our loyal clients in the opening of their fourth butcher shop in Singapore. We have also had the opportunity to visit other clients throughout the year. 

Globally, new customers have joined us in 2023 from Kuwait, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Thailand, UAE, Fiji and Korea. Our distributors have played a vital role in our ongoing success in the international market, leading to King River being featured in restaurants, butchers and more worldwide. Our strategic relationships with direct shipping lines have ensured that King River was able to provide reliable and competitive shipping throughout 2023, offering customers peace of mind.

Growing our national and international exposure

In 2023 the King River team has been worldwide promoting our products, breaking into new markets through sponsored events, trade shows and more. Earlier in the year, Harry and Jill attended the Wetlands Festival and gave a short presentation on King River. However, the highlight for our team was when ‘My Kitchen Rules’ stars Dan and Steph presented a King River Wagyu cooking demonstration. Overseas, we had the opportunity to meet buyers at the Austrade roadshow in Vietnam and also took part in the five-day Seoul Food and Hotel Expo. 

In September, we showcased our Wagyu at the Taste of Queensland luncheon hosted by Trade and Investment QLD. Over 40 guests from Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong and China sampled our products and were introduced to the family business. We also participated in the Taste of Australia campaign in Thailand. One of our distributors participated in the 16-day event, promoting our product to 17 Gourmet Market stores.

The international opportunities peaked in 2023 with an exciting invitation from QLD Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to attend an exclusive state dinner during the China International Import Expo in October. We were also chosen as one of three businesses to be the “Face of Australia” which included a media interview with the Prime Minister of Australia and a second interview for Shanghai TV. This event was highly effective for our brand’s exposure and networking in this growing market. 

It’s fantastic to see how many global locations enjoy our King River products. In 2024 we are looking forward to building our international distribution network and continuing to showcase our incredible Wagyu worldwide.

Growing our recognition

Awards are important to us at King River because they show our customers that we are committed to continually producing high-quality Wagyu, and they also provide a tangible reward to our hard-working team. 

We received two awards in the 2023 Wagyu Branded Beef Competition, hosted by the Australian Wagyu Association. We received a silver medal in the Class Two Purebred, including a 9.5 for Digital Marbling Fineness. We were also excited to take home a silver medal for our Purebred Wagyu at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show.  

As we wrap up the year, we want to thank everyone who has been part of the King River network in 2023. You are a vital part of not only the strength of our business but in the pleasure of doing business every day.
